本书从作物遗传改良的原理和作物育种技术出发,全面系统地介绍了育种目标、种质资源、性状鉴定与选择、育种方法、作物品种试验、品种审定和种子生产等知识。根据变异的来源不同,对引种和选择育种、杂交育种、回交育种、诱变育种、远缘杂交、倍性育种、杂种优势利用、分子育种、群体改良等作物育种方法和途径进行了详细介绍,并对作物特殊性状的育种方法(包括抗病虫育种、抗非生物逆境育种和品质育种)进行了单独介绍。 本书可作为全国高等农业院校及其他相关院校农学、作物遗传育种和种子科学与工程等专业的教材,也可作为研究生教材《高级作物育种学》和《作物育种理论与实践》的补充教材,还可作为相关科研院所作物遗传育种工作者的参考资料。
