《新编实用英语（第三版）》立体化系列教材是在《新编实用英语（第二版）》的基础上，根据新的教学基本要求改编的全新版本，第三版更加注重对高职高专学生 英语应用能力的培养，顺应高职高专英语教学发展的新形势，适合三年制英语教学。 Talking Face to Face部分在保留原有围绕应用文和对话样例的基础上新增了Mini-talks训练，把单元实用话题分解为细小的“小对话”，同时这些小对话又相互补 充，涵盖了本单元交际话题的主要方面，既减轻了每次训练的信息含量和语言分量，便于学生学习、模仿与掌握，又培养了学生处理该单元话题的口头交际能力。 Being All Ears部分进行了较大调整，把听力训练按3个层次进行训练：交际话句单句训练——实用交际对话训练——实用演讲/讲话等连贯语篇训练。交际语句紧扣实用 交际话题，训练学生掌握实用的交际语句，提高他们应对实用口头交际的能力；实用交际对话训练则侧重培养学生在语言交际中快速应对的能力；而实用演讲/讲话 等连贯语篇训练则侧重训练学生听懂连贯讲话的能力。 Maintaining a Sharp Eye部分做了较大调整。一是更换了部分课文，使教材更加反映时代气息和职场交际的特色，语言更加新潮，更有利于学生参与，如新增了较多的网络讨论和博客 交流等，还增设了Online Search/Posting（网络搜索/张贴专栏）。同时对保留的原有课文做了适当的调整与删节，使之更适合综合语言技能训练;二是将阅读文章的重点生 词全部旁注在课文的右边，为学生独立预习课文扫除了生词障碍。
